I discovered your article on Charles Washington Bullock some time ago on the Internet and find it especially interesting on two accounts:
His parents have the same names as those of my great-great-grandmother Anne Newton (Bullock) Whittlesey, and they were both born in Mississippi ten years apart although in different counties.
He apparently lived in Woodville, TX and is buried there. I lived in Woodville for about ten years from 1968 to 1978, although back then I never realized that I had relatives there in the 19th century.
Several sources including the Whittlesey genealogy (link to 1898 edition http://books.google.com/books?id=IGFbAAAAMAAJ&pg=PA285&a...
) show my that my great-great-grandfather Joseph Adolphus Whittlesey married Anne Newton Bullock, born June 9, 1834 in Holmes Co., Mississippi to Lemuel and Martha L. (Day) Bullock of Sabine Co., TX. Now Charles Washington Bullock is shown in your article to have been born in Copiah Co., Mississippi to Lemuel and Martha (Day) Bullock. I looked at a map and found the two counties to be three counties apart. I suspect that they lived in Holmes Co. when she was born and later moved to Sabine Co., although Holmes Co. could possibly where her relatives lived.
Several sources including the Strong-McLemore genealogy show Anne Newton Bullock's parents to have both been born in 1794 (in SC for him, in Mississippi for her). That would make them both 40 years old the year she was born, and I would suspect that they had other children older than her. Their birth dates would have been compatible with having a child born in 1824.
Another similarity between Anne Newton Bullock and Charles Washington Bullock is that they are both connected to Sabine Co., TX. She married there in 1849 and lived there for a number of years until after my great-grandfather, Oscar Whittlesey, moved to Shelby Co., TX in the early or middle 1880's. He then or subsequently built a house on his land for her and his father. She lived on that place most of the rest of her life until her death in 1913. Her children were all born in Sabine Co.
The Strong McLemore genealogy indicates that both of her parents died in Sabine Co. in the 19th century, although I have never found Find a Grave memorials for them anywhere.
Your article indicates that Charles Washington Bullock's first marriage probably occurred in Sabine Co.
If she had any siblings such as Charles Washington Bullock, I would like to submit the information to her Find a Grave memorial where she is buried in Shelbyville, TX.
