Walter B. Tinney, 94, of San Angelo died Monday, April 6, 1998, in Baptist Memorial Center. Service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 8, at Johnson's Funeral Home with L.C. Messer officiating. Burial will follow in Belvedere Memorial Cemetery. Walter was born March 6, 1904, to Elbert and Bessie Tinney in Baylor County. He had been a resident of San Angelo since 1941. Walter married Julia Edith Rooker in January 1957. She preceded him in death in 1992. He was a retired city employee after 22 years of service, retiring in 1969. Walter was well-known for his true to life animal carvings. He was an avid duck hunter and a collector of Indian relics. He was a member of Full Gospel Assembly of God and attended First Assembly of God. He also was preceded in death by five brothers, James Robert Tinney, Isaac Clark Tinney, Lee Tinney, Troy Woodrow Tinney and George Dewey Tinney. He is survived by one son, Wesley Tinney and his wife, Cathy, of San Angelo; two sisters, Alice Sneed and Allene Richter, both of San Angelo; and four grandchildren, Brandon Tinney, Gregg Hughes, Shaunna Tinney and Stacey Tinney. The family would like to give a special thanks to Hospice of San Angelo. Pallbearers will be members of his church.
