Yep the Capps book is awesome but it is sorely lacking in the listings of burials from Rogan Field. The wife of Monroe Grant had many generations of ancestors both in and around San Saba. Several were buried at what is now called Rogan Field. Some were interred both before and after the dates listed in the Capps book.
That family moved many graves from that cemetery that were not listed in the book as well as a few that were never moved because of the destruction of many of the stones and grave markers. That is why the church lost the land to begin with after all. The most notable unlisted grave has a headstone in the new City Cemetery - Israel Mathias Harkey his headstone reads "Here lies in spirit but remains interred at Rogan Field." Other Harkey stones were found and moved before the dozers did their work. None of those names are reflected in the Capps book.
In talking with some of the Harkey descendants who were involved in moving the graves - the process was described in great detail. Some families did not request their ancestors graves be moved - Those remains were left in place, the headstones were laid down on top of the burials and they were covered with dirt. Many graves no longer had stones.
It is also noted that during several construction projects in recent years remains have been unearthed. New bleachers, coaches offices and the building of a weight room all turned up both bones and tombstones at Rogan Field.
