From the Marshall newspaper, no date, probably 1886.

The family of Mr. Daniel Doppelmayer were thrown into paroxysms of grief on Wednesday by a telegram from Cincinnati announcing the death of James Doppelmayer. James had been ill with quinsy sore throat for several days and his father had telegraphed him to come home and remain until he recovered. He was to have arrived Wednesday, so that the feelings of the family may be better imagined than described, when they received news of the death. James was an only son and a general favorite among all who knew him. Although just past the age of fifteen, he was more manly than many men. He possessed a promising mind and sought every available chance of giving it the most thorough culture. He was a careful, painstaking and urbane lad, and in his death Marshall has lost one, who, had he lived, would have made a useful and honored citizen. The body will arrive here to-night and the funeral services will be conducted by Rev. J. A. Ward, at the family residence, on Sunday.
