(The following letter was submitted to the "Cozy Corner" childrens'
column in The Dallas Morning News in 1896. "Little Mr. Big Hat" was the
editor's nom de plume, "Peggy" was Little Mr. Big Hat's "goat" (i.e., the
wastebasket), and the "cousins" mentioned, were fellow submitters
to the column)

NUMAN McFARLAND, Arkada, Fannin Co., Tex. -- Little Mr. Big Hat, Miss Big Bonnet and cousins: Here comes another little boy just 5 years old to join you. I went to school this winter for the first time. I love to go to school. I hope Peggy will not be hungry. Miss Big Bonnet said when he found one written with a pencil he gobbled it down, so I will write with pen and ink. I am mamma’s and papa’s baby, but I help papa work. I went out last week to help him burn brush, and I caught fire, and about the time I got jumping pretty high papa got to me and put it out. None of the rest of you cousins need wish to try such work. I have no pets, only our dog. I can ride him or work him to my little wagon. I will answer Tommie Russell’s question: Lincoln was killed by John Wilkes Booth.
