I am a great descendant of Conrad Lex who was a German immigrant. He landed in Corpus Christi with his brother in the late 1850's or early 1860's. He was a cook for the tenth, Co. E. He was captured early in the war and stayed somewhere in Arkansas. He was later released in a prisoner exchange. He continued to fight through the entire war with the 10th after his release. After the south's surrender he walked all the way back to Texas where he homesteaded and farmed in Parker Co. Texas. The old Lex home and farm saved my father's family from starvation during the Great Depression. His archived pay records sometimes show his first name being spelled inconsistently, no doubt due to his heavy German accent.
