Does anybody know which Methodist Churches existed in Ellis County, Texas during the period 1860 to 1863? John ROPER (b 08 Jan 1788 - NC, d Oct 1863), who was an early Methodist Minister in Missouri, relocated to Hill County after the marriage of his daughter Telete ROPER to Felix MILLER. John ROPER is shown in the 1860 Census for Hill County.

John ROPER had other daughters, including Nancy Jane ROPER, who married William A. LONG, who is shown in the 1860, 1870 and 1880 Census residing in Ellis County.

A letter from John ROPER's granddaughter dated July 22, 1928, indicates that John ROPER was interred in Milford, Texas, though this is mentioned in passing.

Given John ROPER's role in the Methodist Church, interment at a Methodist Church cemetery would seem most likely.

Of course, John ROPER also could be buried on family property of the LONG or MILLER families. John ROPER's son, John Henry ROPER (b 27 Jan 1819) was also married to a LONG on 22 Oct 1848. What are the chances that the Nancy LONG who married John Henry ROPER is unrelated to the William A. LONG who married Nancy Jane ROPER less than two months earlier?
