I am looking on any information on Benjamin and Lydia PAGE who came to Texas from Boston, Massachusetts in 1834 settling along Cedar Bayou at the HARRIS COUNTY and CHAMBERS COUNTY LINE. They were members of the Stephen F. Austin Colony. They had initially applied for one league and labor on land on Buffalo Bayou. They were living with the Whitney BRITTON family east of the San Jacinto at the time of the Battle of 1836. Benjamin PAGE and Dr. Harvey WHITING had boated together across the San Jacinto to look up James ROUTH to confirm the rumor that if no resistence was made against the Mexican Army, then no harm would come to the local residents. Instead they met up with Colonel ALMONTE who escorted them to the home of James MORGAN where SANTA ANNA had set up his headquarters. SANTA ANNA commandeered their craft and told them to return and spread the word to their neighbors that they would be safe if they stayed in their homes. He gave them a dugout, and they recrossed the San Jacinto. Two days later SANTA ANNA met his destiny at the confluence of the San Jacinto River with Buffalo Bayou near Lynchburg.

My 2nd great grandfather Augustus "Gus" Richard BUCK was supposedly living with Benjamin and Lydia PAGE as their 11 year old foster child at the time of the Battle. He ran away from the Pages to Anahuac, CHAMBERS COUNTY, TEXAS. Samuel BARBER of Cove, Texas eventually took him into his family as one of his own.

Benjamin and Lydia PAGE settled along Cedar Bayou in HARRIS COUNTY at present day Baytown, Texas. They bought one or more tracts of land from Whitney BRITTON. Benjamin and Lydia PAGE are still alive during the 1850 US Census.
