Thank you, ladies, for your input.

The copy of the will for John Horn was typewriten in a Sullivan County will book at the library, which was obviously a transcription.

Here's a transcription of a photocopy of John's marriage obligation to Catherine Pence:

"Know all men by these presents, that we John Horn & George Pence are held and firmly bound unto his Excellency Jarvis Munroe Esq. Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, and his sucessors, for the use of the commonwealth, in the sum of One Hundred and Fifty Dollars, to which payment well and trucy to be made, we do bond ourselves, and every of us, our and every of our heirs, executors and administrators, jointly and severally by these presents. Witness our hands and seals, this 18th day of January in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred.
The condition of the above Obligation is such, that whereas a Marriage is shortly intended to be solomnized between the above John Horn and Catherine Pence of Rockingham County, if therefore there shall be no lawful cause to obstruct the said marriage, then the above obligation to be void, otherwise to remain in full force."
Signed by John Horn and George Pence.
