I have a 2x great-grandfather who was born in Jackson County, Tennessee in 1855 and I am confident he was born out of wedlock. The census records I find support this information and it was confirmed over the weekend from a family member who was verbally told by my great-grandfather.
I am wondering if anybody has any idea if there are bastardy bonds for Jackson County, Tennessee? I find information that the bastardy bond would be filed in the county where the mother resided, but I cannot find any information other than that. I am not positive if they would be archived in court records, bond records, or what, but I am thinking it would be in bond records.
Any help would be appreciated.
