Aside from the problems with the last name, his age varies from census to census, though most would indicate he was born in the latter part of the 1870s, despite the dates given for his birth.

Remember, that his birth info was probably given by a child who really never knew the date of birth. If only there had been something about a place he spoke of, it would help.

Have you contacted all the cousins that descend from hiim? Possibly someone might have something on him you are unaware of...a discussion of a place in Italy.

In Italy, you must know the town of birth to even start to look for the records. Identifying that name is important to find that town.

Another thing you might find out...what church he was married in. If Catholic, he would have a record in the Church as well as the state of Va. record. It might include something. Don't forget to try and find out who were witnesses to the wedding. If any was Italian, it could be someone from a similar town---they tended to congregate in the same areas in this country.

It is not going to be easy. There are no names in Italy that correspond to Clipse...or even starting with the Cli. But there is a presence of the name Calipa in Cittanova in Reggio Calabria. Again, only a shot in the dark at best.

The social security application is available...but it costs a bit to get one. But those who have used it find a great deal included. I have never ordered in one.

If he worked with the RR in 1910...possibly he worked with the RR in 1906 when he was married? Sometimes the RR has records of those employed. Long shot as well.

Will keep looking.
