My g.g. grandfather, John Ansel (family spells this ANZELE) WICKER, was born ca. 1805, perhaps in Newberry Co. SC. From family stories it is said he was orphaned and raised by an uncle. At age 12, he was thrown in a horse race and crippled in some way for life.

The earliest record I've found for him is 1837 in Chambers Co. AL. He is on the 1850 Coffee Co. Census and held land in both northwestern Coffee Co. and southeastern Crenshaw Co.

He married Mrs. Dama ADAMS HILBURN (b. ca. 1822 SC) after 1844. Both she and her first husband, ______ HILBURN were born and married? in SC, possibly Newberry Co., and moved to southern AL. On the 1850 Coffee Co. census, the eldest HILBURN child was born in 1837. I've noticed only a John, Levi, and Ryley HILBURN on SC census bef. 1850 and only in Newberry Co. 1800.

Family members have said that within the WICKER household were four HILBURN children: Jane, Henry, Vaughn (married twice) and Sarah Ann (+FRAZIER); and several WICKER children: John Anzele, Jr. (married twice), Farbia (+HOLMES), Emiline, Andrew Jackson (+MONTGOMERY), and Damie Ann (Didamie Ann Sylvester)(+MONTGOMERY)-- g. grandmother. Another relative adds the names Elizabeth and Eula. One of the daughters married a NELSON. On the census is another child, William M. between John Jr. and Elizabeth. There is no Eula or Farbia on the census, but there is a Louisa/Jane and a Frances.

Would appreciate any information on the WICKER, ADAMS or HILBURN families of Newberry Co. or their descendants in southern AL.

Thanks, Melissa Warren
