Information on the BRADDOCK family of Chesterfield County, South Carolina.

In the 1790 census we find:
Ralph Braddock in St Thomas, Cheraws District, SC (Chesterfield county was established in 1798, from Cheraws
In 1800 can´t find him; 1810 in Darlington Co. SC; in 1820 in Chesterfield Co SC; Ralph Braddock disappears from SC census after 1820, either deceased or living with a child; his son John Braddock is near him in 1820 and is there in 1830.

Ralph Braddock is listed in some family and secondary records as Raff, Rafe, or Ralf, which may be a derivative of Raphael.

Family listed for Ralph (Raff / Ralf) Braddock (dates very uncertain):

Sources include family records [based on memory of Barbara Braddock Dixon, 1862-1944 recorded in her lifetime], and census records; census all list father Ralph Braddock rather than Raff; in Ancestral File and IGI (list him as Raff Braddock); RootsWeb at PeopleConnect, etc.
census dates have been used; these are not always reliable, butneither are family memories of grandchildren-though very important on relationships when they were raised in the area - as in this case.
This chronological arrangement of children is based on a careful study of the census records, and is different from the family records in age estimates and order of birth.

Ralph [Raff] Braddock has an estimated birth date of abt 1764 [source unknown but apparently based somewhat on the early census records]; he is said to be son of Edward and Polly Braddock.

Some records associate him as son or grandson of General Edward Braddock (1695-1755) who came to the Virginia in Feb 1755 to command the British troops in assisting Colonists against the French and Indians, & was killed in PA in July 1755. That Edward Braddock was born abt 1695 in the county of Perth, Scotland, son of another General Edward Braddock (who died about 1725). Since both generations of these Edward Braddock´s were soldiers, it is difficult to know where their children may have been born.

One secondary listing has three sons for Edward Braddock (1695-1755) as Raphael, John, and Francis. But no documentation, and some info known to be wrong -so all suspect. [But Raff could be derived from Raphael- though seems more apt to be a grandson of this generation]

Has anyone done research on the BRADDOCK family of Chesterfield County area, South Carolina, who has some answers? Will exchange info.
