I am trying to verify that the Stone family of the 1710's in Berkeley County, SC is the same family from Essex Co., MA.
John Stone, Sr. b. Nov 24, 1668 Andover, MA
m. Nov 14, 1690 Andover, MA (to Mary Russ)
John Stone, Sr.'s Children:
John Stone, Jr.
Mary Russ Stone had one illegitimate child: Mary Butler, attributed to Nicholas Butler.
I found the following deed abstract from the South Carolina Archives:
South Carolina Deed Abstracts, Volume III. Abstracted by Clara A. Langley (Pgs. 317-318)
Book O-O, p. 230
22 Apr. 1715
JOHN STONE, SR., tanner, of Berkeley Co., to his eldest son, JOHN STONE, for £1 Currency, 1/2 his lands, 105 a., in Berkeley Co., on E side cooper River, bounding John Millman, Thomas Monk & Humphrey Funquitt, & near Dr. Barabant's land, except 60 a. in front of the marsh which he reserves for himself & his wife MARY ( mother of JOHN) during their lives. Witnesses: HANNAH CLYATT, Mrs. Mary Moraney (later Mary Butler), DEBORAH STONE, ROBERT CLYATT. Before William Cattell, J.P., William Hopton, Register. Plat of 195 a. shows 80 a. belonging to HANNAH CLYATT, 64 a. of which were sold to her by JOHN STONE & 16 a. by JONATHAN SINGLETARY; certified in Apr. 1715 by ROBERT CLYATT.
Could the Berkeley County, SC Stone family be the same as the Essex County, MA family?
