Ashland Man Takes Own Life
A 46-year-old Ashland man died of a gun shot wound of the chest Friday at noon.
Arthur W Strunk, of 1813 Market Street, was found dead in the garage located to the rear of the dwelling after neighbors reported hearing the sound of a gun being discharged.
County Coroner Dr. Otto Miller ruled that the gun shot wound was self-inflicted.
Strunk resided with his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Purnell, and was employed by the Pennsylvania Power and Light Company as a groundman with a maintenance crew.
A son of the late Louis and Anna (Bingham) Strunk he lived in Ashland all his life. He was a veteran of World War II, a member of Zion Reformed Church, Ashland, the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, Ashland, also the Washington Fire Company.
In addition to his sister, Mrs. Purnell, he leaves a sister, Mrs. George Allvord, Chester.
Funeral services will be Monday 1:30 pm from the Otto Funeral Home, 200 Centre Street, Ashland, with Rev. Robert Hughes, pastor of the Evangelican Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd officiating. Burial will be in the Brock Cemetery, Ashland.
Viewing Sunday 7 to 9 pm.
