Jacob Umlauf, 1411 Centre Street, Ashland, retired businessman, died at his home Sunday morning at ten o’clock following a lengthy illness.
Born November 10, 1878 at Locust Dale, he was a son of the late Peter and Carline Spiece Umlauf, and lived his life in Ashland, where he conducted a bakery for many years. Since his retirement, the business has been carried on by a son, Chester.
He was a member of Zion’s Reformed Church and the American Hose Company.
He and his wife, the former Bertha George, observed their fiftieth wedding anniversary in May of this year.
Surviving besides his wife are the following children: Charles P, Jacob H, Chester W, and Mrs. John Goss, all of Ashland; seven grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Lena Gedling, Philadelphia; Mrs. Lewis Deuble, Lansdale, and Mrs. Walter Lewis, Philadelphia; two brothers, Charles, Philadelphia, and John, Ashland; a half sister, Mrs. Howard McNabb of Philadelphia; a half brother Edward Mattes, Locust Dale.
Funeral is Wednesday afternoon from Otto Funeral Home, 200 Centre Street, Ashland, with burial in the Fountain Springs Cemetery. The Rev. Melvin Walper, pastor of Zion’s Reformed Church, will conduct services.
