John McGinley, 59, president of the McGinley Coal Company, died at his summer home in the Poconos. He had been in failing health for the past several months. He was born in Beaver Meadows, Carbon county. For years he resided in Avoca before taking residence on Moosic Road, Old Forge. For over 28 years, Mr. McGinley served as superintendent for the Jermyn Coal Company, most of that time at Langcliffe Colliery, Avoca. He was general manager of the Suffolk Coal Company for five years. Retiring from that position, he opened his own mines in Exeter, and a breaker in Old Forge. He served as councilman of Old Forge and last year was the Democratic nominee for tax collector of that borough. He was one of this section's best known mining men. He was a member of St. Lawrence church, and its societies, at Old Forge. Mr. McGinley took an active part in church and borough affairs. Surviving are his widow and the following children: Lawrence, Dunmore; John, Exeter; James, Avoca; Thomas, Old Forge; Joseph, Bernard, Old Forge; William, New York City; Richard and Raymond, Old Forge; Mary, Helen, Rosemary, Catherine, and Agnes, all at home; one brother, James, Exeter; two sisters Mrs. Mary James, West Pittston, and Mrs. Edward VanCampen, Dallas, also 11 grandchildren. The funeral will be held Monday morning at 9 o'clock from the late home, Moosic road, Old Forge, with a mass in St. Lawrence church at 9:30. Interment at St. Catherine's cemetery, Moscow.
