Howard E. Gyle, 58, of Mountain Top, died Thursday, May 10, 2007, at his summer home in Wapwallopen.
Born and raised in Ashley, he was a son of the late Howard H. Gyle Jr. and Shirley Norton, raised by his late grandparents, Howard H. Gyle Sr. and Sarah Ammerman Gyle.
He was a graduate of Hanover Area High School and Luzerne County Community College.
He worked for 27 years as field superintendent for Postupak Painting Company and was previously co-owner, with his son, of Plymouth Taxi and Plymouth Precision Auto and Truck Repair, until 1996.
He was owner of Howie’s Excavating Company and worked with his son at C&S Truck Shoppe, West Nanticoke, prior to his death. Howie’s hobbies included purchasing and remodeling rental properties.
He was a First Sergeant in the U.S. Army National Guard, serving from 1972 to 1984. He was a member of the Paints Union Local 71 and a member of the Catholic War Vets of Hanover Township.
He was preceded in death by an infant son; brothers, Paul and Charles and sister, Shirley.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Ann Lee Hogan Gyle; son, Shawn J. Pulver and his fiancée, Missy Barcheski, of Harveys Lake; daughter, Lee Ann Werner, of Clifton Park, N.Y.; grandson, Brandon Michael Werner; granddaughter, Brianna Ann Lee Werner; brothers and sisters, James Wayne, Edward, Sandy Coons, Sally Moyer and Robert, of Wilkes-Barre, James Jr., of Ashley; nieces and nephews; and his three rescued dogs that he loved dearly.
Howie will always be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and a fun-loving friend. He loved life and found so much beauty in nature. His practical jokes and sense of humor will be missed. Those he met along the way loved and enjoyed him very much and we will miss him.
A funeral Mass will be held Monday at 9 a.m. in All Saints Parrish, 66 Willow St., Plymouth, with Father Don Williams, officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are by the Piszczek-Desiderio Funeral Home Inc., Plymouth, 70 E. Main St., Plymouth.
The family wishes to extend their thanks and appreciation to Hospice Community Care for the loving care extended to Howie and to our special angels, nurse Sandy Zylkoski and aide Sharon Williams.
Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice Community Care, 601 Wyoming Ave., Kingston, PA 18704, or to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, Angel Canyon, Utah, where Howie was going this summer on vacation to volunteer.
