Only 2 of James and Eleanor Smith's 5 children lived, a son and a daughter. However his son, James, had no sons and the daughter is not listed in the 'signer's will, in which he lives certain property to his son, James, and the rest to his wife. No mention of the daughter or any children she might have, which certainly sounds as if she died earlier, without children. By saying James had no descendants, we mean that his family died out in the next generation ..therefore, there are no family sheets; there was no family.
If your family member was a first cousin of James, the 'signer', then this would mean that you need to be researching the siblings of Jame's father....
The following is from a biographical sketch from THE HISTORY OF YORK COUNTY....James Smith's father was John Smith, born and educated in Ireland. His eldest son was George, who was an attorney, but drowned as a young, unmarried man...thus, no children. James was the middle son, and the youngest was Arthur, who married and moved into the "Western country" and "nothing further has been heard of him". He certainly wasn't mentioned in his father's will, so his survival is also suspect.....however, the only child your Smith's could possibly descend from would be this Arthur.
