I am so pleased to have found this board! I'd been dead-ended with searching for Red Bern until this morning. I'd only seen the name of the place written as "Redburn" and any searches always resulted in little information.
In 1905 my great grandparents came from Sicily with the destination of "Redburn, Pennsylvania" to live with a cousin (Archangelo Liberti). Even though these people were farmers in Italy, I'd assumed that mining was involved here in the US, and it seems that I might be correct.
What was the origin of "Maggio" Mountain (maggio is the month May in English)? I notice that it was also called Red Run Mountain.
Would there be any records from the mining operation from the early 20th century?
I would welcome anyone else wanting to respond with any type of interesting information about Red Bern.
