Dear Dave Risner;

You have tapped into our common family. We have the details which during a free moment, I will try to provide.

Your Beltz in North Lewisburg, having spent a brief time in the Cincinnati area, moved to North Lewisburg. The Atlas in the late 1800s, shows Andrew Beltz to be the largest landowner in the town. The BELTZ FLOURING MILL building remains, just north of the downtown intersection.

They came from Friend's Cove, Colerain Twp, Bedford County, PA. Prior to that, they were south of Lovettsville, Loudoun Co, VA, There were references to Monocacy River area of Frederick, MD. Prior to that, they were from Lebanon and Lancaster Cos, PA.

The original American reference is the Easter Monday, April 4, 1763 wedding of Andreas/Andrew Beltz/Belz wedding to Juliana Harclerode/Herchelroth, along the Middle Creek in Clay/Warwick Twps in Lancaster Co, PA. This wedding was witnessed by his parents, Peter Beltz and Juliana ???.

We believe that we have them in Europe. Once a date discrepancy is resolved, we may get them back another 4 generations. If this proves true, there is a continuous set of grain and flour millers from the late 1500s and early 1600s to your "grist" mill east of North Lewisburg (which no longer exists) and your "flour" mill (closed) in downtown North Lewisburg.

The difference is that the "grist" mill was crude and produced crushed product for both livestock and early kitchens. The later "flour" mill produced refined flour usually just for the later kitchens.

We are selling, for $10, the Lucile Wiley map of southern Friend's Cove, Colerain Twp, Bedford Co, PA. It shows the location and ownership details of the Beltz Grist Mill about one mile west of Rainsburg. It also has another 50 or so names placed where they owned property. The archives of this BBS describes the map contents.

Some time in the future, there may be more.

Sincerely,

Phil Beltz
