Jesse M. Roberts, 80, of New Freeport, died at ?:45 AM Wednesday, Jan. 22, 1964, at his home following an eight-year illness.
A well-known former blacksmith and employ of the Dun Mar Oil and Gas Co., he was born Nov. 29, 1883, at Robertsâ€™ Tun in Gilmore Township; the son of the late Dennis and Barbara Ellen Braden Roberts.
He was married Nov. 23, 1907, to Rosa Ann Yost Roberts, who survive. Also surviving are a son, Howard F. Roberts, of Newark, Ohio; a daughter, Mrs. Albert â€œMildredâ€ Zallar of Euclid, Ohio; a foster daughter, Mrs. Irwin â€œVirginia Reevesâ€ Leasure of Burgettstown; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Edward M. Roberts of Washington ands a sister, Mrs. Maude Shriver of Waynesburg. A daughter and a sister are deceased.
All of his life was spent in Pine Bank and New Freeport areas where he was a road supervisor for several years. He was also a past-president of the New Freeport Volunteer Fire Company.
He was a member of the Methodist Church.
Friends of Jesse M. Open house will be held Sunday, Dec. 1 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Roberts of New Freeport in celebration of their Golden Wedding Anniversary. Friends will be received from 2-5 PM
The well known Greene County couple was married Nov. 23, 1907 at Jollytown. Their entire married life with the exception of ten years lived in Wellsburg, WV, has been spent in Greene County.
Mr. Roberts was the son of the late Dennis and Barbara Roberts. A member of the K and P Lodge of Pine Bank and aerved as president of the New Freeport Volunteer Fire Company for fice years. A blacksmith for a number years, he also worked for a gas and oil company until he met with an accident in 1955 and was retired. He is now road supervisor at Freeport Township.
Mrs. Roberts is the former Rosa Yost of Hundred, WV, and was the daughter of Simon and Caroline Yost. She is a member of the Church of Christ.
They are the parents of the trhee children; Mrs. Mildred Zallar of Cleveland, Ohio, Howard Roberts of Newartk, Ohio; Nellir Roberts, deceased. Also there are four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. â€œTyped are writterâ€ The article also has their picture.
