Funeral services for Freddie Dean Smith age 64 of Littlefield, Texas will be conducted at 10:30 A.M. Friday, July 7, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Littlefield with Reverend Tracy Spencer of the Follow Thru Fellowship Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Buffalo Cemetery near Sayre, Beckham County, Oklahoma at 2:00 P.M.Saturday July 8, 2006. Arrangements are under the direction of Hammons Funeral Home of Littlefield, Texas.
Mr. Smith passedd away in Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock on July 4, 2006. He was born May 8, 1942 in Sayre, Oklahoma. His parents were Tom and Ida Smith of Sweetwater, Oklahoma. Dean attended school at Sweetwater, Oklahoma and graduated from Sayre High School in 1960. He married Coell Vandine on Nobvember 22, 1960. He began his career in law enforcfement in 1973 as Deputy Sheriff in Beckham County, Oklahoma and also served as Chief of Poilice of Sayre, Oklahoma, and served in that capacity from 1981 through December 1984. He also served as Deputy Sheriff in Perryton, Texas from July 1985 thru 1986 and then moved to Littlefield, Texas. He retired from the Lamb County Texas Sheriff office in August 2004 after serving in law enforcement for 31 years. He is preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, 5 sisters and 1 grandchild.
He is survived by: Twin sister: Jean Olson and husband Jim of Plainview, Texas; 2 sons, Ron Smith and wife Debbied of Hollis, Oklahoma; Burt Smith and wife Jami of Plano, Texas; daughter, Michelle Campbell and husband Johnnie of Sayre, Oklahoma; 5 Grandchildren; Special friend: Carmelita Mills of Littlefield, Texas.
Visitation for family and friends were held at Hammons Funeral Home in Littlefield, Texas on Thursday, July 6, 2006 from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. and also at Rose Chapel in Sayre, Oklahoma Friday July 7, 2006 from 7:00 until 9:00 P.M.
