Funeral service for Lance Haney, 59, of Cyril, Oklahoma, will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 22, 2015, at the Harvest Fellowship Church in Leedey, Oklahoma with his nephew, Pastor Mark Haney and Pastor Donnie Miller, officiating. Burial will follow at the Shirley Cemetery under the direction of the Fletcher Funeral Home.
Mr. Haney passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2015 in Lawton, Oklahoma at the age of 59.
Lance E. Haney was born February 1, 1956 in Pampa, Texas to Paul and Oleta (Harrel) Haney. He graduated from Leedey High School in 1974. He was a standout baseball and basketball player, a candidate of the Jim Thorpe Award and was looked at by major league baseball scouts. Lance worked in the oilfields for around ten years. He hitchhiked all over the United States, sometimes continuing only by the kindness of others. He spent his final years in the Ada Residential Care Facility and Montevista Rehab and Skilled Care Center. Lance enjoyed sleeping by the creek, trading coins and spending time with his family, especially his mother. He was very loving and will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his mother, Oleta Harrel, of Cyril; two brothers Ronnie Haney of Arapaho and Steve Booker and his wife Shelli, of Cyril; two sisters, Pauleta Hunter and her husband Bob, of Broken Arrow and Laneta Lutonsky and her husband Robert, of Cyril and numerous nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Haney and his great nephew, Jadan Haney.
