Karl N. Locklear, 68, of Columbus, Ohio, died March 28, 2017.
He was born on December 8, 1948 in Chillicothe, OHIO to Jeanette (Pean) Beatty and the late Robert Locklear.
Karl was preceded in death by his father, Robert Locklear, step-father Nolin Beatty and grandmother Lillian Liggins.
Karl is survived by his son, (Karlo Reid) and grandchildren Kayona and Karlo (II) Reid all of Columbus, OH, his mother Jeanette (Pean) Beatty, brothers Hal (Patty) Beatty, James (April) Beatty, and sisters' Sherry (Elsworth) Simmons, Noredia (Gary) Smith, Anita (Charles) Brown, Joreen (Mark) Sanders, and Eva (Buddy) Lee. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews and special friends Marvin Taylor, Greg Lee and Von Vargas.
Karl graduated from Chillicothe High School.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War in which he received the Purple Heart for saving four other servicemen during battle.
He also received a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Combat Infantryman's Badge.
He was an expert sharpshooter and machine gunner.
Karl was a 25 year employee of Columbia Gas of Ohio.
Karl also worked with the Columbus Parks and Recreations Department and worked as a licensed softball and basketball official.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at The Original Glorious Church of God in Christ, 123 West Main Street, Chillicothe, OH.
The viewing will be from 12:00- 1:00 p.m. with funeral services immediately following.
The funeral will be under the direction of KEITH A. YOUNG FUNERAL SERVICES OF SPRINGFIELD, Ohio.
