Ohio enacted a statute in 1856-57 requiring birth, death, and marriage registration. The law was generally disregarded.
Pickaway County appears to have attempted to satisfy the statute, at least initially, by compiling Return of Birth and Return of Death records for a period beginning in 1856 (probably March 1, 1856) and ending on the first day of March 1857. Both sets of records are available at FamilySearch.
Since Pickaway County at least began implementing compliance with the 1856-57 statute regarding births and deaths, I am attempting to determine to what extent subsequent years (between March 1857 and 1867) were covered and where such records might reside.
