GALION: Mary A. Cottrell, 95, of Galion, Ohio, died Thursday, February 14, 2013, at Allenwood Senior Community in South Burlington, VT after a brief illness, with her family by her side.

Born October 2, 1917 in Morgan County, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late J. Hershel and Blanche (Weir) Wickersham.
A 1934 graduate of Malta-McConnelsville High School, she graduated with Phi Beta Kappa honors at the Ohio University with a Bachelors of Science degree in Education.

She married Richard H. Cottrell on December 29, 1942 and he survives.
After travelling to Vermont in November, 2012, they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary with a family luncheon in late December.

Mary was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Galion, Ohio; a past member of Second Presbyterian Church in Newark, Ohio, and a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority.
A life-long educator, she taught English, Latin, and Ohio History in junior and senior high schools in Marseilles, Urbana, and Lancaster, Ohio retiring from Newark City Schools in 1975.
She and Richard enjoyed a long retirement with many happy winters in Florida.

In addition to her husband, Richard; she is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Judith R. and Jim Stafford of Peru, N.Y., and Janet R. Cottrell of Shelburne, Vt.; two grandchildren, Joanne (Matt) S. Sorrell and Jeanette (Pete) S. Andrews; as well as extended family.

Friends may call from 12:30 to 2 p.m. on Thursday, February 21, 2013, at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home where services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 21, with Pastor Julie Fogle officiating.
Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery.
