YOUNGSTOWN – A funeral service celebrating the life of Ms. Clara M. Barrett will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Tabernacle Baptist Church. Ms. Barrett departed this life April 13, 2013, at Hospice House in Poland.
Ms. Barrett was born Nov. 19, 1937, in Youngstown, Ohio a daughter of Lester and Nancy Harris Martin.
She was a graduate of The Rayen School and was formerly employed with Park Vista Nursing Home, retiring in July of 2012 after 42 years of dedicated service.
She was the proud owner and operator of CB Catering.
She was a faithful member of the church, where she served as a member of Nurse’s Guild, Senior and Chancel Choir, Hospitality Ministry, Usher Ministry, After-School program, Women’s Day and Recreation Committee, Convention Ministry and Senior Mission.
She was an honorary member of Willing Workers and served as cook for Wednesday night youth Bible study and Vacation Bible School.
She was an active member of Northern Ohio Baptist District Association.
She was the former president of the Booster’s Club, member of the Red Hatters and dedicated her time to the Harding Foster Grandparent Program.
She looked forward to her annual trip to the National Baptist Convention, where she sang in the choir.
She enjoyed shopping, cooking and traveling. She was a kind and caring person who will be truly missed by those who knew and loved her.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving sons, Vernon L. (Jeanette) Barrett Sr. of Boardman and Melvin Barrett of Youngstown, Ohio; two brothers, Lester (Gloria) Martin Jr. of Liberty and Larry ( Lasonja) Martin of Pickerington; three sisters, Linda Hall of Liberty, Berdia Smith of Youngstown, and Leanne (Derrick) Flanagan of Warren, Ohio; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Friends may call Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Washington Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends Saturday, one hour prior to services at the church.
