I have run into a strange situation with an ancestor dying in Jan 1837 but court records continuing to indicate that he appeared before the court in person for a year or so after his death. Some of the real estate sale records are indeed from years before his death that were apparently not recorded until afterwards but others clearly say he and his wife appeared on a date after his death. Some documents say his signature was made by another at his request. Any thoughts? Is this something that commonly happened in that time period? The problem is that this makes some question his date of death and I am comfortable that is in fact Jan 1837.
