Joseph Allen Simmons, age 89, of Coshocton, Ohio passed away on Thursday, January 17, 2013.

Joe was born on February 16, 1923 in Coshocton, Ohio to the late Franklin Bruce and Lucile Delle (Buker) Simmons.

Joe graduated from Coshocton High School in 1940 and was then drafted into the United States Army Air Corp during WWII serving from March 15, 1943 to May 16, 1945, as an Aviation Cadet.

Joe worked for Miller's Pharmacy, Cussin & Fern, Clary Bros. Florist, Coca Cola, and spent 30 years of service, before he retired from the Coshocton Post Office.

He was a member of Park United Methodist Church.

Joe loved working in his yard, enjoyed wood working, Christmas decorating, spending time with his family and traveling.

On September 20, 1947 he married E. Ermaleen "Mickey" Simmons who passed away on December 16, 2009.

Joe is survived by his two daughters, Diane (Gene) Wright of Coshocton and Denise (Dan) Barrett of Delaplane, Virginia; nine grandchildren, Sandy Carter of Coshocton, Amy Endsley of Columbus, OH, Angie Pigza of Willoughby, OH, Chad Wright of Haymarker, VA, Travis Wright of Hilliard, OH, Danny Barrett, Miceile Barrett, Micensie Barrett, and Joseph Simmons Barrett all of Delaplane, VA;
nine great-grandchildren; brother, Frank (Pauline) Simmons of Englewood, FL; sister, Caroline (Bud) Lawrence of Coshocton, OH; son-in-law, Randy Brenneman; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Along with his parents and wife Mickey, Joe was preceded in death by his daughter, Debbie Brenneman, brother, Curt Simmons, and four sisters, Mary Simmons, Velma Bosson, Pauline Scott, and Jeannie Copenhaver.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2013, from 3-6 pm at Given-Dawson Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 20, 2013, at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Given-Dawson Funeral Home with Pastor Jeremy Roseberry officiating.

Burial will follow at South Lawn Cemetery with the Coshocton County Veterans Council preforming Military Honors.
