"Mrs. John C. Ross met with a serious accident that it is thought will be the cause of her being unable to walk for the rest of her days. Mrs. Ross has been very ill for several weeks and as she was feeling a little better she was dressed and sitting in a chair in the parlor. Her daughters, Mrs. Carnathan and Mrs. Bickett, were working in other rooms of the house and Mrs. Ross thought to surprise them by showing them that she was able to walk out where they were. She arose from her chair and started out but her strength was less than she anticipated and she fell after taking a few steps. The result was a fractured hip joint. The doctor was unable to set the break on account of her age and inability to undergo an annesthetic."
