Hi,

You should investigate Robertson Littlejohn and Dorcas Gaston first. Investigating the miscellaneous Gaston's can cause you to attach the wrong people to them.

Women born before 1840 are extremely difficult to find because North Carolina wasn't recording births then and they were persona non gratis until 1850; meaning they couldn't own a business, property or inherit.

Look for their actual marriage document in FamilySearch, Catalog or order a copy from the Lincoln County Register of Deeds. Both sets of parents might be on it.

If not, find the newspaper marriage announcement.

Neither one of them are on a Gaston or lIncoln County Census.

Catherine Gaston
F: James Gaston
M: Mary Gaston

At least now we know that Robinson and Dorcas did exist.

I'd look in FamilySearch, Catalog for their deed, tax & court records.

I'd also contact the Gaston-Lincoln Genealogical Society
PO Box 584
Mt. Holly 28120
and ask if they have information about the two of them. Successful Searching!
