For the researchers who are trying to find the parents of Samuel Hickman born ca 1741/42 who married Margaret Millican born ca 1744/45. The below information is for possible leads and not documented by me.
From the Ancestral files, Morman Church.
John Hickman born ca 1721 New Hanover co NC Married Ann Wingate born ca 1725 New Hanover co NC, married ca 1746 New Hanover co NC, the date ca 1746 could be earlier, children of this marriage, John Hickman born ca 1746 and Edward Hickman born ca 1749 New Hanover co NC.
We know that New Hanover co was formed from Craven co in 1729, Bladen co formed from New Hanover co 1734, Brunswick co formed from New Hanover and Bladen co 1764 and Columbus co from Bladen co and Brunswick co in 1808. Bath co being the original county, but discontinued in 1739.
North Carolina Taxpayers 1701 to 1786
compiled by Clarence E. Ratcliff.
John Hickman 1755,1762 & 1763 New Hanover co NC
John Hickman 1769 & 1772 Brunswick co NC.
(These two John's are probably the one and same person.)
We know that according to Samuel Hickman's REV pension record that he was born 1761 probably Bladen co since Brunswick co had not been formed yet. IF these two John's are the same person, then Samuel Hickman could have been born in New Hanover co, since John was still paying taxes in New Hanover co in 1763,now the dates for the marriage of John Hickman and Ann Wingate ca 1746 seem to match real well for Samuel Hickman born ca 1741/42 and also the children of this marriage, John born ca 1746 and Edward born ca 1749 are so prevalent in the Hickman lines from Brunswick and Columbus co NC that this John Hickman and Ann Wingate marriage needs to be researched by all concerned.
Any help would be appreciated.
