Surnames: Gilbert, Barnett
Hi, I'm lookin for information on Delilah and Johnathan's parents. I found both on the
1850 Census for Kings Creek as follows:

#549 - Delilah Barnett-35-F-White

I have been unable to find any information on her other than her marriage to Johnathan Gilbert, who lives down the street from her. I think Hamilton could be Mulatto, it's possible he was light skinned enough to pass as White.

#551- Franky Gilbert-75-F-White
Johnathan Gilbert-33-M-White

In 1853 in Wilkes County on the 18th of September Johnathan and Delilah were married by JP- G.W. Hendrix and Witnessed by William T. Ferguson. Although on his marriage bond his name is listed a Johnson which I believe is his middle name. He also used both names on his Civil War Service Records. He enlisted from Caldwell County on February 1, 1862. He enlisted a Private at the age of 40. He was hospitalized Dec. 9, 1864 at Richmond, Virginia. He was absent/desserted on Feb. 28, 1965. General Lee surrendered April 9, 1965. He was actually closer to 50 when he enlisted. I have found no record of him since. The last record I have of him is the 1860 Census for Buffalo Creek, Caldwell County:

#1038 - Johnathan Gilbert-47-M-White
William -4-M-White
Susan Merrimon-73-F-White (John's mother-in-law)

Dovey Merrimon and John were married Jan. 11, 1859 in Wilkes County by JP- James F. Tugman and Witness- William T. Ferguson. In 1870 Dovey is listed as the Head of the house in Kings Creek:

#9 - Dovey Gilbert-50-F-White
Harriet E.-10-F-White

Harriet is I believe the Eliza that was on the 1860 Census. Eliza being Harriet's middle name.

Any help in finding the parentage of the family would be great.
Thank you.
