Irene Keller Starnes, 91, of the Shaire Center, Lenoir, died Jan. 29, 2001, at the Shaire Center after a period of declining health.
Born June 9, 1909, in Caldwell County, she was a daughter of the late L.D. and Lilly Mae Yount Keller.
A member of Poovey's Grove Baptist Church, she was a member of the WMU and a church training teacher. A teacher for the home-bound and rest home members for 27 years, she was a foster parent of 20 children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard J. Starnes; a brother, the Rev. Gordon Keller; and a sister, Violet K. Carter.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Amanda S. and Rick Winkler and Lois S. and Ed Whisenant of Granite Falls; a brother, Garland Keller of Granite Falls; three sisters, Pearl K. Hawkins, Ruth K. Craig and Ella Keller of Granite Falls; a grandson, Benjamin Whisenant of Granite Falls; a granddaughter, Brooke Whisenant of Granite Falls; and a number of nephews and nieces.
The funeral will be conducted by the Revs. Roger Mercer, Don Ingle and Ron Winkler at 11 a.m. today at her church.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
