Hi Terry,

I live in the area James and Rebecca came to in Alabama after the Civil War.

You all do know that James was married before he married Rebecca. Mary Hunter and had some children with her before she died.

I researched this family for about a year, and could not make a connection, as my Gibbs line came in the early 1840's, everybody said the two were not kin.

Recently, through DNA, I have found the two lines are connected and descend from Rev. JOhn. My 3rd gr grandfather, William J ( Jordan) Gibbs, was b. 1824/25 in TN according to the 1850 and 1860 census of Al. Some say he was born in Ga. His wife was Winny Cranford.

I recently examined the Richard and Archibald Gibbs lines. Having to fill a 2 generation gap is hard. I feel it is two, some say 1, but William had a Nancy A Gibbs, born before 1800, living with him in 1850 and 1860. We assume she is his mother or grandmother?? If his mother, that means William's father died before 1850 and the only two sons of Rev. John that died by 1850 had no sons named William, and possibly James Moses.

There was a James Moses Gibbs B. 1818/1820 living just down the road from William. His wife was Elvira Wadkins. Their first child was born in TN.

If anyone on this list has seen my William J or James Moses, I would love to hear from you.

There are still lots of descendants of Harvey Jasper and Joshua Gibbs, sons of James, and Bryant Gibbs in this area. ( I just recently learned that Bryant also came to Alabama.)
Just check out the Gibbs names in and around Blount co from 1860- 1900.
