Westport — Gerald V. Moore, 75, of Westport, died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at the Horace Nye Nursing Home in Elizabethtown.
He was born in Illiopolis, Ill., Dec. 8, 1925, the son of James and Elizabeth (Connor) Moore.
Gerald served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as part of a crew that flew over the Himalayas, also known as "Flying the Hump".
Gerald received his bachelor of science degree from Eastern Illinois University and his masters degree from Middlebury College. He was a professor of English at Paul Smiths College and retired as chairman of the English department.
Survivors include his wife, Judith of Westport; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Greg and Jennifer Moore of Westport and Charles Moore of San Diego, Calif.; one daughter and son-in-law, Alisoun and Mark Hanna of Arnold, Md.; and three grandchildren, Scott and Lauren Hanna and Scarlett Moore.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 17, 2001, at 2 p.m. at the Westport Hotel to which all friends of Judith, Gerald and the family are invited.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Westport Emergency Squad or to the Westport Library.
Arrangements are with the Hamilton Funeral Home in Westport.
