A descendant of Solomon`s daughter, Julia (b. about 1873), claims that Solomon was born as Bartholome Dauphinais in 1827 in Quebec, Canada and that his parents were Louis Phenix dit Dauphine and Marie Josephte Roussel. This couple was also my gggreat grandparents, through another son, born about 1824 or 1825. The problem is that I can`t find a Canadian birth/baptismal record for either my ggrandfather or Bartholome/Solomon. This is nothing unusual. My great grandfather went by the name of "William" in the USA (New York), but this is almost certainly not the name he was born with. Family history says he came to NY about 1839-1840 and it may have been through Whitehall. They probably traveled with at least one older brother (3 had to leave Canada for a time after the failed Rebellion of 1837). But, "William" moved on to Troy, N.Y. and married in 1847. He raised a family in Troy and Halfmoon and died in 1910, at the age of 85. My paternal grandmother was born Anna Phoenix. According to Ancestry.COM, I am definitely a blood relative of Solomon`s descendants.
A couple of notes on names and spellings:(1) Dauphine and Dauphinais are suffixes, referring to places where the family came from (possibly, in France). The correct surname is "Phenix" or "Fenix", in French. "Phoenix" is an anglicized spelling, used in English-speaking countries.
