We've been banging our heads against a brick wall for some time now, trying to trace the ancestry of a William H. Messick, born about 1833 in New York to Joseph and Eliza (Taber) Messick.
William died in Lagrange County, Indiana in 1901, and according to his death record, he was born in "Rochester, NY," but we can find no evidence to substantiate that claim. However, our research of Mesick/Messick families in New York during the early 1800s has revealed a large number of Mesicks as well as Tabers in the Rensselaer area, so we're wondering if perhaps there was some confusion on the death certificate, substituting "Rochester" for "Rensselaer."
So anyway, even though it's a shot in the dark, we'd greatly appreciate any leads whatsoever regarding Joseph and Eliza (Taber) Mesick/Messick and son William (b.c.1833). Anything may be useful, including church, land, probate or cemetery records, etc.
Thanks very much!
