To the Editor of the Courier
On Friday morning as the tolling bells welcomed the birth of the New Year, Ellen Louisa Williams, wife of Henry A. Williams, passed into the “beyond” joined the band of the silent majority, who, hovering above the nation keep vigil until the birth of the new morn. Born of poor but honest parents, her whole life was dedicated to the raising of the intellectual standard of “Home” Hers was a life to be admired and respected, leaving behind only the memory of an honest and kindly woman, who alone bowed to death. The last hours of her life were sweetest; the love for her husband, the kindly interest in the many she left behind – these were the tolling bells of the life “beyond” calling others to duty.
A loving and honest wife, a loving mother, a true neighbor and an open and candid friend has at last paid the debt all owe to nature, has at last proved by the monuments of love and kindness left behind that life is worth living for, and that birth is sacred. Her kind and attentive husband, her beloved offsrping, and her heart-broken mother and brother who survive her are deserving of the sympathy of all. C.A.B.
