When RITA DALY NORTHNESS married her husband, her life of travel across the United States began. From New York to California, she followed her husband when he attended college and again when he was employed in the aerospace industry.
Daly, a former Redlands resident, died January 17 in Boise, Idaho. The cause of death was not available. She was 82. She was born June 9, 1922 in Brooklyn, NY and grew up in Long Island, NY. Northness attended Katy Gibbs School in New York City. She also worked in the city during World War II.
She married her husband, Kenneth Arthur Northness, who was a Navy pilot during the war, in Long Island in 1945. The couple moved to Laramie, Wyo, where her husband attended the University of Wyoming. They moved to Redlands in 1978 while her husband was a representative for Thiokol at Norton Air Force Base in San Bernardino.
She was a member of the Redlands County Club and was active in a bridge club. The couple moved to Idaho in 1988.
Survivors include three sons, David Northness of Eagle, Idaho, Robert Northness of Columbus, Ohio, and James Northness of Arroyo Grande; her daughter, Christine Boye of Salt Lake City; two brothers, Bart Daly of Los Alamos, N.M. and Jack Daly of Boise; three sisters Eileen Hanley of Westbury, NY, Alice Corpstein of Phoenix, an Carol Fulton of Haymarket, VA; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services have been held. Meridian Cemetery handled arrangements. Donations may be made to the American Lung Association, 1111 S. Orchard St., Boise, ID 83705.
