from the Watertown Daily Times, Watertown, Jefferson County, NY - October 17, 1918
JOHN CORBETT, SR,
John CORBETT, sr., died at 10 this morning at the home of his son, former Alderman D.G. (Daniel G.) Corbett, 523 Mohawk st. He had resided with his son since the death of his wife, 17 years ago. Death was due to heart trouble, after an illness of one week. Mr. Corbett was born in Limerick, Ireland, coming to America December 29, 1874. (NOTE: Records indicate that Mrs. Corbett and 4 children were passengers aboard SS Adriatic, which landed at New York on that date. Mr. Corbett is not listed as a passenger aboard that ship. It is believed that he came to the US one or two years earlier and worked, possibly for the railroad, until he was able to secure passage for his family.) He settled in Oswego and lived there until 17 years ago. He had been employed as a stationary engineer at the Watertown Steam Engine Company. He had not worked in about five years.
He is survived by six children: D.G. Corbett of Watertown, John jr., James, Mrs. Alfred Moran, Mrs. Thomas Baker, and Mrs Delia Moran, all of Oswego; 25 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.
The remains will be taken to Oswego Friday morning for interment.
