NEWELL, W. Va. — Raymond A. Swanson, Jr., 76, of 602 Jefferson St., formerly of Jamestown died Thursday (May 16, 2002) in the East Liverpool Community Hospital, East Liverpool, Ohio. He was born May 2, 1926, in Jamestown, the son of Raymond and Genevieve Carlson Swanson Sr. He was a graduate of Bemus Point High School and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II having served in the Pacific Theatre on the USS Solomons Aircraft carrier. He had been employed for many years at the Carborundum Corps retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Chester American Legion Post 121, Chester, W. Va., the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 66, East Liverpool, and the East Liverpool Moose Lodge. Surviving are his wife, Shirley Kimball Swanson, whom he married Aug. 28, 1975; four sons: Gary Swanson of Los Angles, Douglas Swanson and Daniel Shanahan, both of Jamestown, and James Shanahan of Kennedy; 12 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. The funeral service will be held at 1 pm Tuesday in the Falconer Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received by the family from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
