Son of Walter and Anna Ashley Durfee, of Freetown, Mass., and West Chazy, N. Y.; born in Benson, Vt., July 10, 1802; He died in Cannonsburg, Mich., April 13, 1860; married in Craven Co., N. C., October 28, 1827, to MARY TINGLE, of Craven Co., near Newbern, N. C.; daughter of Perry and Rhoda (Vendrake) Tingle; born near Newbern, N. C., February 14, 1803; She died in Monroe, Ohio, June 25, 1885.

4 Benjamin F., born in Arkwright, Chautauqua Co., N. Y., December 27, 1836. See below

6, Hosea N., born in Arkwright, Chautauqua Co., N. Y., December 22, 1840; died in Mich., about 1869; unmarried
Mr. DURFEE went to North Carolina where he met and married his wife (MARY TINGLE) and after his first two children were born returned to Benson, Vt., removing from there to Arkwright, N. Y., and later to Ashtabula Co., Ohio. At one time he held a commission as a captain of a company of militia in Craven Co., N. C. All of his sons enlisted in the Union army in the war of '61-'65. HENRY was rejected on account of defective eyesight. ELIAS died in a Confederate prison, leaving three children.

Son of Darius and Mary (TINGLE) DURFEE, of Benson, Vt., and Cannonsburg, Mich.; born in Arkwright, Chautauqua Co., N. Y., December 27, 1836; he was a private in Co. B, 29th Ohio Vol. Inf.; enlisted August 19, 1861; discharged October 28, 1862, at Frederick, Md.; he was a carpenter and millwright; married in Arkwright, Chautauqua Co., N. Y., October 20, 1863, to Ann A. CRAWFORD, of Arkwright, daughter of Edwin and Malentha Crawford; born in Arkwright, November 14, 1838; they resided, 1904, at Pierpont, Ohio. Their only child:
Nina Leona; born in Monroe, Ohio, June 19, 1868; died in Erie, Pa., December 20, 1884; unmarried.
Mr.. DURFEE'S first wife left him during the year 1876, and on the 11th of April, 1882, he married Mrs.. Mary GILL, a widow, who died October 12, 1886; he married a third time in Indianapolis, Ind., September 12, 1890, to Mrs. Loretta A. (VARIETY) CARNEY, a widow, daughter of Stephen and Loretta (Wilson) Variety; born on Long Island, N. Y., May 5, 1850.
