Mrs Maria Tonger (nee Dankert) widow of the late John Tonger, died at the home of her daughter near Ashford, Monday, Nov. 13, 1916, at the age of 86 years, 4 months, 22 days. In 1861 she was united in marriage to J. Tonger and came to America the same year. The lived in Zoar for some time, later they purchased a form in the town of Ashford where she lived since. Two children blessed this union, one having preceded them to the better land. After her husband's death in 1903 she was tenderly cared for by her daughter Mrs. Fred Gildner who survives her. She also leaves a brother Chas. Dankert of Versailles, a grandchild, and two greatgrandchildren besides other relatives to mourn their loss. The funeral was held Friday in the Lutheran Church at Plato of which she was a faithful member, the Rev. Wm. Malto officiating. She was laid at rest beside her husband in the Plato cemetary.
