Hi Sharon ~

Thanks so much... I am aware of John Hambler's will but had no idea that it was online ! Some people on the Hamler Family Web Site believe that this John/Johannes Hambler is the son of the first known New Jersey Hamlers who arrived from Germany in 1718.

And then there are named children of Nicholas Hammler's, the patriarch of the Hammler family who made the travel to America, then quickly to New Jersey. Nicholas's children are named and the next generation of Hammlers/Hamblers/Hamlers so it's difficult to sort out from among the children who might be a candidate for William H.'s and David's father with the large families that ensued from Nicholas.

Nicholas arrived with 4 known children (Hank Z. Jones) and possibly more... They started out in Somerset Co., NJ and spread to Morris County (where adult males were on the tax tables in very, early 1800s) then Sussex Co. and Warren County and then Pennsylvania. And who knows by that time what other Hammlers were arriving...
often with similar names, especially "Nicholas."

Under what circumstances are wills made out? Only to leave "worldly goods" ? Because so many Hamlers were "laborers," problably having little to leave their families...

Thanks so much for your insights and help !
