Dr. Edward James Sivigny, of Big Timber, passed away Friday, January 5, 2001 in the Family Focus Room at the Pioneer Medical Center in Big Timber.

Dr. Sivigny was born March 13, 1906 in New York City to Jacob and Catherine (Greeley) Sivigny. He was raised in New Haven, Connecticut, where he attended Yale School of Music, playing piano during his high school years and later funding his way through medical school by playing in several small bands.

He graduated from Medical School at State University of New York-Brooklyn in 1938, specializing in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He interned at St. Vincent's Hospital in New York City from 1938-1941 and completed his residency at Women's Hospital, New York City in 1943. Dr. Sivigny practiced in New York City for 30 years where he met and later married Grayce Dunbar Sivigny.

He practiced in Long Beach, California and Guam before moving to Big Timber in February 1978. He worked at Sweet Grass Community Hospital until his retirement in June 1984.

He treasured the memories of the thousands of children he helped bring into the world.

Dr. Sivigny's pastimes included reading, writing, golf and especially music. He continued playing piano at the Hospitality House in Big Timber, thoroughly enjoying the praise of those that heard and sang along. He had a strong love for the game of baseball and had a chance to witness some of the "greats" play ball.

Dr. Sivigny was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Cecilia of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; and brother, John of St. Petersburg, Florida.

He is survived by his wife, Grayce Dunbar Sivigny of Big Timber; two sons, James Edward Sivigny of Bozeman and Edward James Sivigny, Jr. of Clarksburg, New Jersey; brothers, Walter of St. Petersburg, Florida and Joe of Ft. Belvoir, Maryland.

A memorial service was held at 4 p.m., Thursday, January 11 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church to celebrate the life of Edward James Sivigny.
