One of Bonne Terre's pioneers, John Steinmetz, Sr., died at the home of his son, Adam, in Bonne Terre, on December 11,1902, aged 80 years, 2 months, and 10 days. Deceased was a native of Prussia but came to this country in 1845 and settled in Pennsylvania where he resided until 24 years ago when he arrived in Bonne Terre, St.Francois County, to take up his abode. He leaves an aged wife and eight children to mourn his death, viz: John B., Louis V., Adam E. Mrs. Joseph Stretsky and Mrs. James McClenahan of Bonne Terre; Frank M., of Mena, Ark; Mrs. Theodore Schaffer, of Kitanning, PA; and Mrs. R.P. Tetley of Flat River. Two sisters, Mrs,. Bronimer (Brontmer?) of Illinois, and Mrs. Emelaver, of DeSoto,also survive.
Mr. Steinmetz was always a valued citizen, a man of honor and integrity and held the respect of all our citizens. He was a lifelong and devout Catholic and the funeral services were conducted by Rev. Father Canning. A good man has gone to receive his eternal reward.
