I am researching a trade token issued by Frank A. Loethen, most likely for use in a general store. The problem is that the token says it is from Loethensville, MO and I cannot find any other references to this locality. I believe he actually lived in Meta, Osage County, MO as he is listed in the 1920 Census as being in the grain business and in 1930 as proprietor of a baker shop. In 1930, one of his daughters was a saleswoman in a general store, making me think the family business was a combination bakery and general store. I theorize that he may have been postmaster and applied for a name change for the town, and that he ordered his tokens made under the assumption that his application would be approved - which it wasn't. So my question is: Does anyone have any information on Loethensville, MO? The token in question can be seen at www.tokencatalog.com after putting Loethensville in the search box. Thanks! John Mutch
