Nellie Mae Head, of Bourbon, MO, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at Gibbs Care Center in Steelville, MO at the age of 93 years, nine months and 19 days.

Nellie was born on July 30, 1919 near Fredericktown, MO to the late Oscar and Lucy (Keel) Sheppard. On February 5, 1937 she was united in marriage to William O. (Bill) Head and to this marriage seven children were born. Nellie was employed in the dietary department of the former Sullivan Community Hospital for several years before retiring. She enjoyed cooking, sewing quilts, tending to her flower gardens and spending time with her family. Nellie was a faithful member of the First Assembly of God in Bourbon until ill health prevented her from attending.

She is survived by three sons, Gus Head and wife, Tessie, of Steelville, MO, Rodger Head and wife, Johann, of Springfield, MO and Steve Head and wife, Linda, of Cleveland, TX; two daughters, Kathy Lynchard and husband, Gary, of Bourbon, MO, and Peggy Pratte and husband, Steve, of Sullivan, MO; 20 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren and 22 great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Pat Sheppard of Fredericktown, MO; other relatives and friends.

Along with her parents and husband Bill, Nellie was preceded in death by two daughters, Ruthann Brown and Vicki Williams; an infant granddaughter, Teresa Ann Alexander; two sons-in-law, Kenny Alexander and David McBride; a daughter-in-law, Laura Head; three brothers, Cecil, Earl and Ivan Sheppard; and three sisters, Ruby Ellis, Mary Lampkin and Belle Casper.

She was a kind and loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother and will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m., on Wed., May 22, 2013 from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Harold Harrison officiating. Interment was in Bourbon Cemetery, Bourbon, MO. Visitation for Nellie was held from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., Tuesday evening at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.
